SHE SAID YES!

As baby Nori turned five months old, the question on everybody’s lips was when would her parents tie the knot? And the world finally got the answer it had been waiting for on 22 October 2013, when Kanye pulled out all the stops to lay on one of the most lavish proposals in showbiz history.

Never one to do things by halves, he rented out an entire baseball park to pop the question, and true to form sealed the deal with a $1.6 million ring.

As the couple celebrated Kim’s thirty-third birthday at the AT&T baseball park in San Francisco, Kanye gave his girlfriend the surprise of her life when suddenly the message ‘PLEEEASE MARRY MEEEE!!!’ flashed up on the field’s scoreboard screen. At that moment Kanye presented Kim with a 15-carat diamond ring by jeweller Lorraine Schwartz and, as he slipped the ring on her finger – and she screamed ‘Yes!’ – fireworks exploded into the sky.

At the same time a 50-piece orchestra struck up, first playing Lana Del Rey’s ‘Young and Beautiful’, from the film The Great Gatsby, followed promptly by Kanye’s own hit with Keri Hilson and Ne-Yo, ‘Knock Me Down’.

Kim’s family and friends then poured out of the dugouts where they had been hiding. Kanye chose the venue because it’s where his sporting idol Barry Bonds hit his record-breaking 756th home run. In the past he had professed his admiration for the baseball legend, naming a song after him in 2007.

It later emerged that renting out the space for a private event costs $200,000, with another $20,000 for use of the scoreboard, although E! reported the owner of the San Francisco Giants gifted the use to Kanye, who was among the guests.

But money was certainly no object for Kanye, who spent $15,000 flying in 50 handpicked members of the couple’s family and their closest friends by private jet, having personally invited them and sworn them to secrecy. They included ‘several Silicon Valley billionaires’, reported TMZ. However, not everyone was there to celebrate the romantic moment, as it was revealed afterwards that Bruce Jenner was ‘not invited to AT&T Park and he had no idea his step-daughter was getting engaged’, although Kim later explained that he would be walking her down the aisle at the wedding.

The orchestra were paid up to $1,000 apiece as a reward for their discretion; four times their normal rate. And the fireworks display that lit up the night sky had cost upwards of $25,000. Just a couple of days earlier, Kanye had dropped a hint about his big plans, telling the audience at his concert in Seattle that he planned to marry Kim ‘one day’.

Within moments of agreeing to marry him, Kim had posted a snap on Instagram, holding her ring finger towards the camera as she flashed her dazzling engagement band while smiling broadly alongside her man, with the simple caption: ‘Yes!!!’

Afterwards she revealed: ‘I was shaking so much, shaking the entire time! Like, “Is this really happening?” It was like an out-of-body experience.
